Katherine Louise Cashman, age 94 of Swampscott, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at The Atrium at Veronica Drive in Danvers. She was born in her family home in Swampscott, MA on November 11, 1921 the daughter of the late, Maurice J. and Ellen "Nellie" (Broderick) Cashman, who had then recently emigrated from Ireland.

She attended St. John Parochial School, the Machon School and Hadley Junior High School in Swampscott, graduating from Swampscott High School in 1939. Her hope at graduation was to become a secretary, but she achieved much more and progressively rose to management positions at Massachusetts Electric Company/National Grid, from which she retired as a Customer Service Manager after 46 years of service. She accepted her success with great humility, and truly enjoyed the people with whom she worked.

Katherine was part of the fabric of her neighborhood, and was a devoted friend to all she knew. Her "Irish humor" permeated almost every discussion, and she truly enjoyed spending time with her family while watching "her" Red Sox and New England Patriots. Her life was a testimony to Catholic life as she dedicated it to her family friends, church, and numerous charities that were dedicated to serving those less fortunate. While the last year of her life found her challenged with health issues, her concerns remained with others.

She was a member of several organizations, including Union Hospital Auxiliary, Our Lady's Sodality as well as the Infant of Prague Guild at St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott and was a benefactor of several organizations, including Marion Court College. She leaves behind two nieces, Maureen P. Shea and husband, Brian of Peabody, and Kathleen Cotterly and husband, Wayne of Poland, ME, as well as four grand-nieces, (Sara, Julie and Christine Shea, and Erin Cotterly), two grand-nephews, (Corporal Patrick Shea, USMC, and Andrew Cotterly). She is pre-deceased by her parents, Maurice and Ellen, and her younger brother, Daniel.

Family and friends are invited to attend Katherine's Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey Street in Swampscott on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. Visiting will be held from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904. Donations are requested to: My Brother's Table, 98 Willow Street, Lynn, MA 01901.
